There’s a Frost Coming, Meet Florence.

It’s all hands on deck today as the first frost of the season approaches. The weather forecast is calling for a low of 24 tonight and that means death to so many tender vegetables. We’ve harvested everything we possibly can of the vegetables that would otherwise be killed – tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos, eggplant, as well as others that can withstand a light frost but may not make it through a hard freeze, like the Florence fennel shown here. All the other delicate vegetables are now under row covers – lightweight blankets that keep the air just a little warmer around the plants.
